TIRANA, March 30 – Head of the German police Jorg Ziercke made a visit to Tirana to meet with all top counterparts and other law-enforcement officials to further strengthen the already close cooperation existing between the two institutions.
The police in the two countries have had an excellent cooperation in joint operations and also exchange of information and training.
They have held 14 successful joint operations.
Germany has been one of the key supporters in updating Albanian police with the highest technology, information and training during the post-communist period.
Albania will soon deploy a contact police officer in Germany, where there is a considerable number of immigrants.
German and Austrian police will be stationed in Albania, alongside a bigger project in the Balkans codenamed ILECU 2 that will help improve technical capactieis of the criminal police.
Ziercke also said they would assist Albanian police in fighting computer crime, which seems to be the future area of police involvement.
