TIRANA, Sept. 30 – The Albanian government has signed a concession contract for the constructing of a yacht port in Durres, the country’s second largest city and home to the biggest port.

Speaking at the contract signing ceremony this week, Transport Minister Edmond Haxhinasto described the new yacht port as very important for the country’s tourism industry.

Albania Bay Marine, a consortium of Albanian and foreign companies, plans to invest $15 million for the port construction.

The Albanian government has also awarded concession contracts for the construction of yacht ports in Synej of Kavaja, Shengjin in northern Albania and Bunec in the Albanian Riviera. A yacht port has already been made operational in Orikum, southern Albania.
