TIRANA, May 22 – Authorities claim they offer the best tax system, possibilities to the international businesses and also organize forums like that of Crans Montana to attract more foreign direct investment in the country.
But treating those world businesses the way done to the Albanian Airlines is not what their words say.
The flight company is part of the Kharafi Group that has made some big investment in our country since many years during this post-communist democracy. It should also be reminded that a small percentage of the flight company still belongs to Albania.
But the company has to leave its offices because the leaser wants it to.
It could be considered a normal market economy rule, if one doesn’t know other details.
The company had a contract which was broken by the leaser, who was also good enough to convince the court he was right. Besides he also managed to convince the public power corporation to cut the power supply to the flight company offices. Why? Wasn’t it paying the bills? No, it was paying them.
So, how was the court and the public power corporation convinced the leaser and not the lessee was right? The contract and the bills spoke to the lessee’s favor. So, what?
The government, the opposition, the administration and also common Albanians should learn that democracy and the market economy mean the rule of law. Speaking or listening to polls on corruption index in the country does no good, other than harm like convincing international companies to, one day, decide investing their money could be better in other places.
