TIRANA, Dec. 22 – The Interior Ministry and police said on Sunday they have achieved good results in fighting crime and illegal trafficking the past year.
Police reported 19.7 percent less crimes against persons, 11.4 percent less murders, 54.8 percent less armed thefts, 66.7 percent less armed thefts resulting in deaths, 30.5 percent less crimes against property and 8.8 percent less properties destroyed with explosives. All the numbers compare 2014 to 2013.
“Guaranteeing citizens’ life and property has been and remains the main priority of the police work which is also that much focused in complying with the legal obligation of controlling the territory,” said a ministry statement.
Such statements come at a time when the opposition Democratic Party claims quite the contrary, saying that police under the current government has failed to stop many crimes and and accuses some cops of cooperating with criminals.
