TIRANA, July 28 – The Interior Ministry reported this week that police had been successful in lowering the deadly traffic accident rate in recent weeks, one of several achievements in police duties, officials said.
In a regular report the ministry has been issuing since the Socialist-led coalition came to power in mid-September last year, the ministry reported fewer road accidents resulting in deaths, and more results in blocking drug traffic in the country.
It said there were 44 percent fewer deadly accidents in the country’s road, hailing the work of the road police. They also reported the destruction of 190,000 drug plants, and a significant increase of the seizure of drugs.
Police also reported more people were arrested for illegal weapon and ammunition possession.
Police especially noted the success of its massive operation in the southern village of Lazarat, where they seized and destroyed 66 tons of marijuana, 5 kilograms of heroin, 18 liters of hashish oil and considerable large numbers of weapons and ammunition.
