TIRANA, Nov. 7 – Albania’s Democratic Party has kicked off preparations for the electoral program that will present to its voters for the upcoming 2017 parliamentary elections.
Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha said Monday the opposition is assuming its responsibilities in “offering Albanians an alternative for tomorrow.”
“This program is a new way to move forward to a new political model of a functional democracy that is in the hands of citizens and not of a ruined mechanism, used to enrich a handful of people with or without criminal records,” Basha said in a press conference.
“Destroying this corrupt and criminal establishment is the first step for us,” Basha added.
The Democratic Party’s new program will pay particular attention to economy.
The DP chairman said that the right wing will offer the best alternative for the country’s growth and development by applying the model of low taxes.
“The Democratic Party believes that good governance comes from a better redistribution of revenues,” Basha said, pledging to reinstate flat tax of 9 percent including, a 15 percent VAT tax.
During the process of drafting the program, the opposition will receive support by the experts of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany as well as the Conrad Adenauer Foundation.
Matthias Schafer, head of the Economic Policy Team at the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in Germany said in a press conference that the Democratic Party program is suitable to “solve problems that hamper Albania’s economic growth.”
“The Democratic Party program is a platform that restores faith and does not generate fake promises but real ones,” Schaffer said.
He underlined that the Democratic Party platform includes a tax system that provides support to entrepreneurship, guarantees economic growth and generates new jobs.
“The platform offers simplified and transparent taxes,” he concluded.
