Democrats seek sacking of Durres mayor over gang leader’s release

TIRANA, Dec. 15 – Albania’s main opposition Democratic Party has urged the government to sack Durres Mayor Vangjush Dako, a Socialist, after investigative journalists showed he had sent a letter to the court in support of the early release of a notorious gang leader and convicted murderer. The Municipality of Durres offered a guarantee that it would give a job to Lulzim Berisha if he was released on bail and if he couldn’t find a job in the private sector.
