TIRANA, Nov. 6 – Denar Biba has been chosen as the new chairman of Albania’s Central Election Commission.
Biba’s candidacy was supported by the left wing parties and was approved in a secret vote by the parliament with 73 votes in favor and 9 against.
The former CEC deputy chairman was running against the General Secretary of the Ministry of Energy and Industry Koli Dede whose candidacy received 22 votes from MEPs.
Biba is replacing Lefterie Lleshi as chairperson of the Central Election Commission whose mandate expired last month.
Lleshi was hoping to run for a second mandate but her candidacy received no support from members of parliament.
Biba graduated from the Faculty of Justice in Tirana in 1999. He has an extensive professional background in the judicial matters.
He served as deputy chairman of CEC as well as legal assistant at the Supreme Court. Prior to this appointment, Biba also served as judicial adviser at the Constitutional Court.
