Deputy head of UN telecommunications agency visits Tirana

TIRANA, Feb. 16 – Houlin Zhao, deputy secretary general of the International Telecommunication Union, has visited Albania ahead of the elections for the top post in the organization later this year.
The ITU is the United Nation’s specialized international organization for telecommunications, created in 1965 with 193 member countries and some 600 other members in the technology and information, communication industry. It serves as an international regulator.
Zhao pledged the organization’s support to Albania in the projects the country has launched in the field. He met with Deputy Prime Minister Niko Peleshi and Innovation and Public Administration Minister Milena Harito.
Albania is in the process of moving from analogue to digital transmissions, which it has to complete by 2015 based in its commitments to the European Union, which Albania aims to join.
