TIRANA, April 28 – EU’ foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini, has praised Albania’s commitment to its EU integration process.

“Albania has a clear European perspective and we discussed today the way forward in this process,” Mogherini said after a meeting in Brussels with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama. She also expressed “appreciation for Albania’s continued effort to be a constructive partner in the region and beyond.”

Albania became an EU candidate country in June 2014 and Prime Minister Edi Rama’s center-left government hopes to open accession negotiations with Brussels later this year.

But there have also been voices in Brussels noting that Albania won’t be launching EU membership negotiations this year because of insufficient reforms mainly related to the high level of corruption, organized crime but also because of its immature democracy caused by permanent quarrels of its politicians from ruling majority and the opposition.
