TIRANA, Dec. 7 – Ambassador of Netherlands to Tirana Dewi van de Weerd urged Albania to step up efforts and fight violence against women.
“The rights of women and girls are violated on a massive scale, whether in the form of discrimination at work, domestic violence, sexual exploitation or human trafficking,” the Dutch Ambassador said at an event, React as Human without Violence, held in Tirana.

The roundtable marked the peak of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence international campaign launched to galvanize action to end violence against women and girls around the world. The campaign is also supported by UN Women in Tirana.

The roundtable also marked the launch of a telephone line for women to report acts of violence and social clubs for men to fight violence. The activity introduced a telephone line to report violence against women and some social clubs for men.

The Dutch diplomat, who is also a He4She Ambassador, underlined the importance of fighting domestic violence in schools, sport fields and in the media as well.
“I will continue to ask men and boys to also do their part. As a mother, I raise my sons with the notion of equal rights for all, every day. I want them to stand up if they see injustice to women or girls. I think we all need to join hands in doing so,” Ambassador Dewi van de Weerd concluded.
