TIRANA, March 14 – The prosecutor’s office reported that it had sent the case for eight persons to the court. They are accused of abuse of post during the work at the electoral commissions in the district of Lezhe.
The defendants belong to opposing political groupings and that is a good sign on the part of the prosecutors that the case is not politically related. They are accused of abuse of post but also of falsifying documentation and the election result.
It is on time as the main political groupingsנgoverning Democratic party of Prime Minister Sali Berisha and main opposition Socialist Party of Edi Ramaנare working on the electoral reform, though no results have been seen yet.
They have already decided that all persons violating the laws during elections may be penalized with up to eight years imprisonment.
Albania will have parliamentary elections next year and though there is still time for the electoral reform they should proceed fast enough to be on time for them.
