The Hollywood actress was also awarded the Albanian citizenship for her contribution to promoting Albanian tourism around the world

TIRANA, August 8 – American-Albanian actress Eliza Dushku is visiting Albania to shoot a documentary promoting Albanian tourism around the world. The Hollywood actress of Albanian origin arrived in Albania last Sunday on a 10-day visit along with an American crew and representatives of Lonely Planet tourist guide, which has put Albanian as the world’s top travel destination for 2011.
“We are cooperating with producers of Lonely Planet or the Travel Channel, because we want to prepare something to show how amazing Albania is. Also I have never had the opportunity to go to Korca, which is where my father is originally from,” Dushku told reporters at the Rinas airport.
During a visit to Tirana Municipality, she was awarded the Tirana Clock Tower by Mayor Lulzim Basha who has proposed the city council to declare Dushku a Honorary Citizen of Tirana and the Honorary Ambassador of Tirana around the world. On Tuesday, she was awarded the Albanian citizenship in a ceremony held at the President’s office.
“You are now the positive image of Albanians who work for Albania. This is the reason, that immediately after being informed of Ms. Dushku request for the Albanian citizenship, fulfilling an institutional obligation but first of all a personal inspiration, I signed the decree granting Albanian citizenship to Eliza Dushku,” said President Bamir Topi.
During her visit to Albanian, Eliza Dushku is also accompanied by well known Albanian-American photographer Fadil Berisha and Albanian-German actor Blerim Destani. Five years ago, Eliza had a double-headed eagle, modeled after the one in Albania’s national flag done on her back during her first visit to Albania and Kosovo.
The 30-year-old actress is most known for her role Faith in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and as Echo in “Dolhouse” series as well as the upcoming “Locked In” and “Torchwood: Web of Lies”
Dushku’s father is Albanian- American and her mother is of Danish and English descent.
