TIRANA, July 6 – On Wednesday, the government approved a decision to adopt Eurocodes in the construction sector, bringing it closer to European Union standards. Eurocodes is a set of common standards containing the European calculation methods to assess the mechanical resistance of structures or parts. The set of 58 European standards were finalised, adopted through a formal vote and published before the end of May 2007. The 58 parts of the Eurocodes (European Standards) cover 10 design areas (basis of design, actions, steel, concrete, composite steel and concrete, timber, masonry and aluminium, as well as geotechnical design and seismic design). The Eurocodes are the Europe-wide means for structural design of buildings and other civil and engineering works, and as such, they are of vital importance to the entire European construction sector– including designers, architects, contractors and producers of structural construction products.
