TIRANA, Jan. 20 – The European Union is increasingly asking the country’s politics to start a dialogue to resolve the impasse.
The opposition Socialist Party is boycotting the new parliament since its start asking for a recount of a considerable number of ballot boxes it claims were manipulated.
Socialists have 64 seats in the 140-seat parliament and their lack of presence makes it impossible for the parliament to pass many laws asking for three-fifth of the votes.
The governing Democrats deny any manipulation saying that a recount would violate the laws.
In a recent move President Bamir Topi met with Spanish Ambassador Manuel Montobio de Balanse and also EC Ambassador Helmuth Lohan to discuss on many issues, including the political crisis.
They focused also on the political situation int eh country, according to a news statement from the president’s office, and the necessity of political and institutional dialogue and cooperation in continuation of the vital reforms, especially that of justice.
