TIRANA, Sep. 7 – Albanian law enforcement institutions remain committed to the process of extraditions to and from the country.
This week, police arrested a Kosovar at the Durres port– Idriz Kadri Murati, 53– following an international arrest warrant issued by the United Nations Mission in Kosovo, UNMIK.
Murati has been sentenced to one year imprisonment for trafficking, producing and transporting illegal weaponry. In 2008 he was detained by the Kosovo border police at the Kosovo-Albanian border crossing of Vermice with rounds of ammunition and a Remington rifle. He had allegedly fled his country and that was the reason of the arrest warrant.
Extradition procedures will follow until he is sent back to Kosovo.
Last week Ergys Tasim Gjioveshaj, 27, was extradited from Austria.
In 2001 he was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for a murder.
He was arrested this June in Vienna.
Also last week, another Kosovar, named Afrim Selim Gashi, 34, was arrested due to an international arrest warrant issued by the Spanish authorities in Madrid.
Police did not explain the reason for the Spanish-issued warrant.
Extraditions remain a main daily reality for law enforcement institutions
