TIRANA, April 5 – Police repeated that fighting drug traffic remains a top priority in their daily work.
Police held earlier this week a meeting to discuss on the strategy in the fight against drug traffic in the country.
Top policeman Hysni Burgaj said that their goal was to take Albania off the list of the countries as drug sources.
A regional conference was held in the northwestern city of Shkodra. Police were required to better coordinate their efforts with the local authorities and the population.
Burgaj said that drug cultivation in 2010 was 80 percent less compared to 2009 and there was an increase of the police power to stop the traffic.
Albania is considered a transit point for hard drugs, heroin, coming from Asia through Turkey and Macedonia and also a country of origin for the cannabis sativa, which is planted all around the country, despite police efforts.
