The Ministry of Health confirmed the first two cases of the coronavirus in Albania in the early hours of Monday. The two patients are father and son, who returned from Florence to Tirana in February 26. Currently, neither of the two display severe symptoms and the situation is stable according to the Ministry of Health.
“The MHSP calls on citizens to maintain calm and practice good hygiene, in accordance with out latest announcements. We also urge citizens to refer only to official sources of information. The MHSP will continue to provide daily information on the situation and the measures which will be taken, ” the Ministry of Health stated.
After the two cases were made public by the Ministry, the government gathered to discuss the measures which will be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country. “The measures which will be implemented today, include the suspension of flights to northern Italy, the closure of schools for a two-week period, the cancellation of rallies, conferences or public meetings,” Prime Minister Rama said. Obligatory self-quarantine for those who have recently returned from Italy will also be enforced.
Minister of Health Olgerta Manastirliu also announced that an amount of 3.2 million lek will be allocated in support of the health system to contain the coronavirus.
