Floryhen, the market leader in Albanian egg production, has completed its 15th year in business. Floryhen began egg production in 1992 as one of the first businesses to challenge the problem of political and economic turmoil, lack of infrastructure, and informality. When it began, Floryhen only had one production facility and seven employees to care for 12,000 hens. Their 1992 production was three million eggs per year that were sold only in the domestic market.
Shkelqim Fortuzi, CEO of Floryhen, recently noted, “Compared to the first years of its activity, our revenues are many times higher”. The company today raises 600,000 hens and produces some 120 million eggs per year. In 2006, Floryhen became the first Albanian company that complied with EU quality regulations and began exporting to the European Union. Just in the final nine months of 1997, Floryhen exported around 30 percent of its egg production to the EU, worth Euro 3 million. Its clients are some of the most prestigious European nutritional companies, including Nestl鬠Barilla, Ferrero, and others.
Floryhen is planning to invest nearly Euro 7 million next year to expand its production facilities, increase its production, and double its exports to the European Union. The company is also planning to invest in a bio-fuel power plant which uses chicken droppings as fuel as it seeks to reduce its power bill and contribute to a cleaner environment. “The time has come for the Albanian government to financially support such measures, as is done by governments in more prosperous countries”, said Fortuzi.
