TIRANA, May 7 – Albania and Poland have signed an agreement through which Warsaw will help the Albanian administration to prepare for accession negotiations and joining the EU, the two governments announced this week.
Enlargement policy brings real benefits to countries joining the EU and to the Union itself, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said this week during a meeting with his Albanian counterpart, Ditmir Bushati.
“We are ready to share our experience with our Albanian partners,” he added.
The ministers discussed Poland-Albania economic relations, Albania’s integration with the EU, and the country’s role in the Western Balkans.
Minister Bushati applauded changes that have taken place in Poland since becoming an EU member state.
“Albania highly values Polish support and experience, including in such strategic fields as gas and energy,” Bushati said. Moreover, the foreign ministers signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on European Integration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania.
Under the agreement, Poland will help Albanian administration to prepare for accession negotiations and joining the EU. “Poland has consistently supported Albania on its path to the EU,” said Minister Sikorski.
While in Warsaw, Minister Bushati also met with Deputy Sejm Marshal Cezary Grabarczyk, Sejm Deputy Agnieszka Pomaska, who chairs the European Union Affairs Committee, and Sejm Deputy Tomasz Głogowski, who chairs the Poland-Albania Parliamentary Group.
