TIRANA, Oct. 22 – Albanian Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta has made a visit to Azerbaijan aiming to push for closer ties with the oil-rich country that is the originating point of the major Trans-Adriatic Pipeline gas pipeline project — the first of its kind to pass through Albania.
“This visit illustrates the importance Albania attaches to boosting its relationship with Azerbaijan,” Meta said. “Azerbaijan is a strategic partner in terms of future development of Albania.”
He met with several of the country’s political leaders.
On the significance of the TAP pipeline, Meta said that was not the only project linking Albania with Azerbaijan as the Azerbaijani companies have been investing in energy, infrastructure and tourism sectors of Albania, testifying “the existence of big potential for expanding our economic relations.”
Meta urged the Azerbaijani partners to further see the possibility of investing in the gas distribution network in the country.
