TIRANA, April 7 – The High Inspectorate on Property Checks said Tuesday it had asked prosecutors to indict former Finance Minister Ridvan Bode, who had not supplied justification for his declared wealth of about half a million euros.
The inspectorate said that Bode had failed twice to offer explanation and documentation for how he got his money.
He faces up to 10 years imprisonment if found guilty, but no senior official has had to more than pay a fine in such cases.
Bode, who still serves as a lawmaker, said officials had not asked him for the documents.
The main opposition Democratic Party, came out with a statement of support for its long-serving lawmaker.
There still remains to be seen whether the prosecutors will launch the indictment and then whether it will go to trial.
Bode is post-communist Albania’s longest-serving finance minister.
