TIRANA, Sept. 10 – The Independent Qualification Committee ousted Durres prosecutor Bujar Hoti on Monday, after the latter failed to pass the vetting process under the country’s judicial reform.
Hoti belonged in the IQC’s priority vetting list due to his candidacy for the High Prosecutorial Council and his ousting makes the establishment of the HPC currently impossible.
Hoti was the chief of the Durres Prosecution Office until 2013. He gained a long career as a prosecutor during the decade he headed the Durres Prosecution, however he was dismissed from his post five years ago, remaining a prosecutor at the Durres Appeals Court.
He appealed the decision to be ousted in the past, but his appeal was not approved.
Hoti owns three apartments and several vehicles, while his wife works as a notary, thus appearing as an important source of income for their family, where the education abroad of their child is included.
However, according to the information declared by him in context of the vetting, the family’s wealth increased 31 times by the end of 2017, reaching the value of 24,8 million ALL.
From the initial list of 57 names, 26 have so far been confirmed, 21 have been ousted by the vetting, while five resigned, interrupting the vetting process.
