FUSHE KRUJE, Oct. 5 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha visited Thursday the cement factory in Fushe Kruje in its inauguration day. That cement factory is one of the biggest foreign investment in the country. Seament Holding has invested some $150 million. It produces 1.4 million tons annually and has one of the most updated technologies. It has started to build the second part which will double its production.
“The construction works have been completed three months ago and started test production,” said manager Shadi Dahdale. Albania’s government awarded to Fushe Kruje a build-own-operate (BOO) concession to build the production line in February last year.
The line was financed jointly by the cement producer Fushe Kruje, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which provided $30 million, the World Bank’s private sector arm IFC with $30 million, Greece’s Alpha Bank – $10 million and the OPEC Fund for Reconstruction and Development – $18 million. The Fushe Kruje plant, located in western Albania, is 99 percent controlled by the Lebanese cement group Seament, which also runs the Elbasan cement plant in central Albania.
