TIRANA, Jan.18 – Germany repatriated last week 255 Albanian citizens who had traveled to the Federal Republic in the hopes of obtaining asylum.

The repatriations were conducted in three separate flights on three different dates, with the largest number of repatriations registered on January 15 involving 149 asylum seekers.

Meanwhile, 43 people were sent back to Albania on January 13 and another 63 rejected asylum seekers were repatriated the following day.

Germany faced massive migration from Albania in 2015 with the number of asylum applications estimated to be around 50,000, the majority of which are believed to be economic migrants.

The German embassy in Tirana has repeatedly declared that Germany does not provide asylum on economic grounds.
