TIRANA, Jan 12 – Albania’s mineral industries began feeling the effects of the global crisis in the last quarter of last year.
The companies are exporting little product and will not be able to invest in their mines this year.
Oil exports and domestic sales have remained stagnant and have been hit by the latest falling prices, according to Bankers Petroleum manager Bob Petryk, speaking to local Albanian media.
The Ber Alb copper company has stopped exporting while waiting for better prices since current prices barely cover their current costs, according to company manager Nazmi Kumanova.
The chromium industry has also stopped exporting. China had been a main importer but has stopped purchasing Albanian chromium in recent months.
