TIRANA, Dec. 18 – Prime Minister Edi Rama of the Socialist Party and his chief ally, Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta of the Socialist Movement for Integration, said their coalition is politically solid, following a joint meeting.
According to Rama the meeting was held to make a conclusion of the annual balance of their work.
Rama said specifically though that they had also talked on how to further the judicial reform “as a necessity for a radical change.”
The meeting followed rumors in the media that the two parties were not getting along, which could lead to early elections.
“We are convinced that it is a responsibility first of all of the majority that has been voted by one million Albanians to take ahead a process in which all Albanians are not divided but are fully together,” said Rama.
The SMI has been the kingmaker in the last two parliamentary elections. First it helped the then-governing Democrats keep the government going in 2009 when it joined their coalition. Four years later in 2013 Meta’s SMI joined ranks with the Socialists.
