TIRANA, Feb. 4 – Following a highly publicized public relations campaign throughout the country, the Albanian government seem neither ready or prepared to provide details on the Albania 1 euro to international investors.
Authorities have yet to issue a list of the objects and services they would offer to investors that could be part of a tender.
This lack of details about the program was confirmed last week by Minister of Economy, Trade and Energy Genc Ruli, who added that a first list has not yet been approved by the government.
It should be noted, however, that last week the government signed over the Fieri thermo power plant to a Greek company with concessions and for only one euro.
The proposed idea is that many government-owned businesses, utilities, industries and services will be sold by concession and for only 1 euro, including small hydropower stations, for example.
The ministry of economy has said that it will soon offer three chromium mines in northern and northeastern Albania in an international tender. The mines will also be sold by concession, which means the winning bid must be modeled so the investment will revert to state property at the end of the specified concession time period.
Property ownership continues to be an obstacle to a process that seeks to attract more foreign investment to Albania.
