TIRANA, Sept. 21 – Police in Greece and Albania have intensified border patrols as a result of a hike in drug trafficking between the two countries.

According to Greek police, Albanian traffickers use couriers who carry small packages of marijuana less than 1 kg in a new strategy to escape border controls. Preliminary investigations reveal that these couriers use busses and small vehicles to cross over Greece.

The drugs are then distributed by Albanian and Greek citizens residing in the neighbor country. Greece is the second destination country for Albanian drug traffickers.
