Greek police catch the last three escaped convicts

All seven inmates who escaped from Drenove prison in southeastern Albania now back in custody

THESSALONIKI, Greece, Nov. 29 – Greek authorities said they have arrested the last three of a group of convicted murderers who broke out of an Albanian prison the previous week, during an overnight operation in the rugged mountains that separate the two countries.
A police statement said the three escapees were stopped by a border patrol late Wednesday last week. One man was taken into custody on the spot, while the other two fled and were captured separately earlyThursday, also last week.
Seven inmates, all serving long sentences for murder, escaped from Drenove jail in southeastern Albaniaon Saturday. Four were arrested within 24 hours in Albania.
Albania’s Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri sent a letter of gratitude to his Greek counterpart Nicholas Dendias. Tahiri also assured his colleague of the continuous cooperation and the joint will in the fight against crime in the two neighboring countries.
Albanian authorities are continuing the investigation of the case and still keep about two dozen of guards under investigation.
Details released from the investigation show that one of them, a senior police officer, had been supplying the convicts with cell phones.
