TIRANA, Oct. 6 – Heavy rain overnight Tuesday caused the rivers in northwestern area of Shkodra to flood the surrounding area raising concern of a repeat of the January flooding there.
Water flows at the Drin River increased significantly and authorities were forced to open the gates of two hydro power stations, but not the ones at Fierza, the largest of the dams.
About a quarter of the Shkodra suburbs and some villages near the Kiri river were flooded damaging a number of houses there.
Authorities said the situation was under control.
