TIRANA, Jan. 28 – The High State Audit says it identified 15.1 billion lek (Euro 105 million) in economic damage by central and local government units during inspections carried out in 2013.
Bujar Lesakaj, the head of the High State Audit, said the damage for the 2012-2013 period is twice higher than in the 2009-2012 period.
Most damage was unveiled in the sale and rent of public property and concession contracts.
The High State Audit reiterated its request that the government must set a debt ceiling as a constitutional amendment for the country’s macroeconomic stability. Public debt has jumped to 70 percent of the GDP after the previous government lifted the statutory ceiling of 60 percent of the GDP in 2012, posing a serious threat to the stability of Albania’s public finances.
