TIRANA, March 22 – Seven houses slid more than 50 meters before being destroyed at a village in Kavaja district, only 60 kilometers southwest of capital Tirana.
The houses at the Boga village, Synej commune, were built on top of a hill in an area that suffered at least two tremor shakes earlier this month. Consequently seven houses were destroyed and more were feared to face the same fate.
All the people were safely evacuated.
The government has pledged it will compensate the house owners but experts said the whole area cannot be inhabited any more. That means other families should forget living there again.
Heavy snowfalls over the weekend blocked many national roads and isolated many communes mainly in the northeastern part of the country.
For hours hundreds of cars and busses with people were blocked at the northern roads unable to drive in the icy roads. Many communes were blocked and also suffered lack of power supply damaged by the strong winds.
The eastern and the southeastern parts were also in the same difficulties.
Heavy rain also flooded some agriculture areas damaging the plants and also the land used by farmers.
There were reported no victims.
