Imami visits Rome to forge closer NATO ties

TIRANA, May 26 – Defense Minister Arben Imami made an official visit at the NATO Defense College in Rome, Italy this week.
During the visit Imami met with the College Gen. Maj. Wolf Dieter Loeser learning about the contribution of the college in preparing the qualified personnel for the NATO member countries.
Albania became a NATO member last year. Some Albanian students have already attended the college.
Imami also spoke about Albania’s future challenges as a member of the alliance.
The minister also met with his Italian counterpart Ignazio La Russa to talk about bilateral cooperation. Italy has been a main supporter and contributor to Albania’s army reform during the post-communist period. They also discussed on finding new ways of cooperation.
Albanian peacekeeping troops in Herat, Afghanistan serve under the Italian command.
As a member Albania is also completing the required legislation.
Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs adopted, on Monday, two important agreements in the framework of NATO membership. After reviewing the two draft laws, members of the Foreign Commission of Albania estimated that accession to these two agreements will enable the fulfillment of the obligations of Albania to other countries facing member states of NATO, as well as benefits of using technical information in the area reserved defense.
The agreement provides for the establishment of an advisory committee comprised of representatives from NATO governments and organizations to investigate and review evidence and reporting to interested parties as to the origin, nature and scope of damage.
In addition, the committee reviewed the draft law “On accession of the Republic of Albania on the agreement for mutual protection of secret technologies in defense and for which patent application is made. This agreement is adopted in view of the territorial restrictions stemming from the prohibition can cause harm to the patent applicants and thus may affect the adverse economic cooperation between NATO member countries.
