TIRANA, Nov 10 – Interior and Justice Ministers took part at a Balkan meeting held in Zagreb, Croatia to also discuss about the possibility of lifting visas for their citizens.
The 6th meeting of the ministers of the area concluded that 2009 should be a decisive year for their countries’ efforts to lift visas for their citizens.
The meeting was organized by the French EU presidency.
Identity cards, border management and control, fight against organized crime and corruption remained the top four pillars the countries should fulfill while asking the European Union lift visas for their citizens.
EU Commissioner Jacques Barrot urged the Balkan countries to sped up and reinforce their fight against crime and corruption. He also said that the European Commission would clarify on Nov 15 with a report what each country should do to reach the visa-free target.
