Interior Ministry aims closer ties with France, Interpol

TIRANA, Nov. 20 – Albania’s European integration efforts, the fight against organized crime and corruption, the issue of the asylum seekers from Albania and the strengthening of the bilateral cooperation in the fight against criminality were the main issues discussed during meetings Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri held in France in a visit this week.
Tahiri met with his French counterpart Manuel Valls and the head of the Interpol, Mireille Ballestrazzi.
Tahiri also assured his hosts that the new Tirana government was making great efforts to fight illegal trafficking in general.
Albania and France are expected to soon sign an agreement on the joint fight against human traffic and abuse of the asylum request system. France pledged to further support the increase of the capacities of the Albanian police.
Albania is also expected to soon sign a cooperation agreement with the Europol.
