TIRANA, April 7 – Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati made a visit to Japan where he said that Tirana would welcome Japan’s decision to open an embassy in Tirana next year in an effort to draw greater investment from the world’s third-largest economy.

“I’m quite (an) optimist that in the near future, hopefully by next year, we’ll have good news on that subject,” Bushati said at a press conference, referring to the absence of a Japanese embassy in Albania.

Bushati held talks with his Japanese counterpart, Fumio Kishida, and other officials to also discuss on opening a Japanese embassy in Albania’s capital.

While Albania opened its diplomatic mission in Japan in 2004, the Japanese Embassy in Italy handles matters related to the Balkan republic.

Tirana is convinced that Japan’s diplomatic mission would boost bilateral trade and cooperation in tackling common challenges

Bushati highly evaluated in his meetings Japan’s continuous assistance to his country which he considered as a “success story.”
