Justice takes the country ahead in integration steps

TIRANA, Nov. 15 – Justice is a fundamental tool in the country’s move ahead toward integration in the European Union and its democratic development. Unfortunately post-communist Albania’s justice still remains its weakest point in that path despite intensive international approach hand assistance.
Naturally it has positively developed with the passing of the years.
The shortcomings and the prospects have been at the attention of many activities during the last week.
A meeting of the High Council of Justice, its executive, focused on its main problems, progress of reform and ways to go ahead based on the Brussels recommendations.
President Bujar Nishani, also head of the Council, urged an increased exchange of opinions among the personalities in the field to discuss on the judicial issues, the lack of the people’s trust into the judiciary and the infrastructure of the system.
In a ceremony of the School of Magistrates for the new judges and prosecutors, OSCE Ambassador Eugen Wollfarth, whose office provides assistance and expertise on the judicial reform, said that following a high-1alutiy education at the school, it was up to the new lawyers to continue in the daily life that positive trend. He urged them on the respect of the human rights as part of the foundations of a democratic society, a “paramount task” for them. He said that was a practical contribution in improving the human rights situation and strengthening the rule of law in Albania.
A day earlier, Tuesday, another conference on enhancing co-operation between the Probation Service and the local government took place marking the conclusion of a series of probation-related training sessions for local officials that the Presence organized throughout the year.
The conference is part of a wider project of the OSCE Presence on strengthening the effectiveness of the probation system in Albania through increasing the knowledge of probation officers and social workers and improving co-operation among all stakeholders.
Albania’s legal development is really a key for its democratic progress monitored very carefully by the international community.
