TIRANA, September 14, 2010 – Kseniya Lvovsky has taken over as the new World Bank country manager for Albania replacing Camille Nuamah.
Jane Armitage, Country Director and Regional Coordinator for South East Europe visited Albania from September 12-14, 2010 to introduce the new Country Manager for Albania Kseniya Lvovsky to the Government of Albania, implementing agencies, donors and other development stakeholders, as well as to discuss with the Albanian authorities the progress of World Bank’s program in Albania. In this context, she participated in the inauguration of a new school in Kamza municipality, and met with beneficiaries.
Lvovsky, who has been leading the Climate Change team in Environmental Department at the World Bank, replaces Camille Nuamah.
During this visit, Armitage and Lvovsky met with Prime Minister Sali Berisha, other members of his cabinet, high level officials, project beneficiaries and donors. They also met with the Governor of Central Bank, Adrian Fullani, and the Chairman of the Socialist Party and Mayor of Tirana, Edi Rama.
In these meetings, they discussed the priority issues facing Albania as it recovers from the impacts of the global financial crisis and moves forward with the EU accession process, the World Bank program of support and the implementation of on-going projects.
During this visit, Armitage participated in the inauguration ceremony of “Ibrahim Rugova” high school, in Kamza municipality, co-financed through the Education for Equity and Excellence Project by the World Bank, European Investment Bank and Council of Europe Development Bank.
“We are happy that the World Bank supports the efforts of the Government of Albania jointly with other donors to help improve learning conditions for the Albanian students,” said Mrs. Armitage in her greetings remarks of the inauguration ceremony of the new school. Education is a top priority for the World Bank and critical for country’s future”.
Albania joined the World Bank in 1991. World Bank commitments to the country to date total approximately $1.1 billion for 67 operations. Currently there are 16 operations under implementation with commitments of US $263 million.
