MALLAKASTER, Feb. 26 – Landslides in Ngarice village in Mallkaster district has destroyed a dozen homes, leaving several families homeless. No one was injured, when the landslides happened earlier this week, as the families managed to leave in time.
The landslide moved by several meters and the next day all the houses were left destroyed.
Their residents called for the authorities to help them find shelter. The next day the central authorities sheltered them and pledged to help them build their houses elsewhere. But the affected residents said they cannot build houses in their land which has turned out to be threatening with sliding.
There is still no clear reason for the slide but experts say they could be related to deforestation. The road linking the village to the main road was also damaged, blocking some 400 residents.
