TIRANA, Dec. 27 – Forest general department reported there have been less damage cases of forests this year compared to the previous year. If the forest damage in 2004 was some 2,400 hectares this year it was not a significant figure. In other figures they reported to have been 68,000 cubic meters of wood compared to 550,000 cubic meters in 2004. Authorities have set strict rules and they have put some 5,500 fines in the last ten months taking some 380 persons to law enforcement authorities. The environment ministry on the other side has started a campaign to plant millions of new trees in four months, starting in December.
