The two officials discussed the work of Albanian law enforcement entities to target those who recruit Albanians to fight in armed conflicts in the Middle East.
TIRANA, Oct. 30 – Intergovernmental cooperation to fight international crime, corruption and terrorism was for the focus of discussions for Albanian Prosecutor General Adriatik Llalla during meetings with his U.S. counterpart, Eric Holder, and other top officials at the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of State during a visit to Washington this week.
Prosecutor General Llalla and Attorney General Holder discussed Albania’s fight on international crime and local corruption, Lalla’s office said in a press release. Llalla said he valued U.S. assistance to Albania in lawn enforcement areas.
The two officials also discussed the work of Albanian law enforcement entities to target those who recruit Albanians to fight in armed conflicts in the Middle East. Llalla reassured Holder of Albania’s full commitment to strengthen regional coordination of investigative structures in developing common strategies to prevent and fight this problem, which has also affected other various European countries.
The meeting also discussed strengthening cooperation in combating trafficking in persons.
In addition to the hour-long meeting with the U.S. attorney general, Llalla also met with other officials at the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the State Department officials.
During his visit, the Albanian general prosecutor also participated in a conference on international corruption and bribery held in Washington this week, in which senior officials from various countries of the world to discussed the mechanisms and strengthening international cooperation against corruption.
