TIRANA, April 25 – The local media reported this week that the municipality of Pustec (former Liqenas), Pogradec district in eastern Albania has been filled with road name signs and squares written in in Macedonian language.
That happens in the last month ahead of the May 8 local elections and very likely is a sign on the part of the governing majority of their demonstration of the rights of minorities in their country. The official candidate for the commune head is supported by the governing Democratic party-led coalition. Edmond Temelko holds the post of president of the Alliance Party of Macedonians for European Integration.
Road signs are in two languages, Albanian and Macedonian Slavic, two are in Latin and one in Cyrillic alphabet. Institutions and road signs in the Macedonian language area of nine villages at that commune.
That was inaugurated in mid-April at a ceremony where besides local authorities there were also some Macedonian politicians and officials.
