TIRANA, May 26 – Police have found a tunnel in rural southern Albania filled with about 800 kilograms of marijuana.

Authorities have seized and destroyed the drugs.

The rural areas across the country last year saw massive cultivation of marijuana, and a little while ago police discovered about 12 tons of marijuana in warehouses in the same region as the tunnel.

Seizures continue in neighboring countries as well.

Greek police in the northeastern region of Kastoria, neighboring Albania Korca region, said they another large load of marijuana was seized by Greek border guards after entering from Albania.

Data published by the Central Directorate for the Fight Against Drugs Services in Italy also continue to point to large amounts of cannabis entering that country from Albania.

According to Italian police about 7 tons of marijuana was seized in April alone, mostly originating from Albania.
