TIRANA, May 18 – During the 37th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of the Islamic Conference in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ilir Meta paid special attention to the process of Kosovo recognitions as well as to the latest developments in the new state.
Some 68 countries have already recognized Kosovo, including the United States and most of the European Union members. But Serbia, supported from Russia, say Kosovo is not a separate state but still part of the Serbian republic.
Talking in front of his colleagues from OIC member countries, Meta praised the passing of the Resolution “On the Situation in Kosovo” as a clear testimony of the sincere solidarity and commitment of our Organization towards the values of freedom and progress. Moreover, Meta pointed out the crucial developments in Kosovo, by underlining the consolidation of democracy and law and order.
He emphasized the participation of the Serb minority in the latest successful local elections as well as the functional role of EULEX in the whole territory of Kosovo, now recognized by 68 countries.
Meta also praised the establishment of diplomatic relations between Kosovo and all its neighboring countries, except Serbia, as a crucial fact of the current reality in the Balkans, but also as a necessity for regional security and stability.
