TIRANA, July 15 – Former President Alfred Moisiu openly attacked Prime Minister Sali Berisha, accusing him of attempting to put all governmental institutions under his personal control.
Moisiu also supported his follower, President Bamir Topi, in his recent clashes with the governing Democrats and Berisha.
Moisiu said that Berisha was trying to create a tribal state in Albania with his efforts to have everything under his control.
Moisiu further noted that the recent political fight regarding the nomination of the new Supreme Court judges showed the political desire to put the office of the president under Berisha’s control, as well. Moisiu said the majority was taking advantage, with its votes in the parliament, to place pressure on the president.
The former president, who has had sometimes-adversarial relations with Berisha and the Socialist premier before him, Fatos Nano, said such clashes should not turn into a crisis because they caused considerable damage to the work done by the institutions. (Tirana Times Staff)
