TIRANA, Oct. 30 – Montenegro banned on Wednesday the import of Albanian cucumbers because of allegedly higher than allowed levels of chemical substances. The ban came after tests carried out by the Montenegrin Agriculture Ministry showed spiroxamine levels in Albanian cucumbers were slightly higher than EU norms.
Reacting to the ban, the Albanian Agriculture Ministry said there was no room for panic and that Montenegrin authorities had confirmed “this is the first limited case for Albania.’ The Albanian Agriculture Ministry says it has set up a working group from the National Food Authority to test samples of cucumber and inspect the presence and the usage of spiroxamine in agricultural pharmacies.
