Montenegro test launches transmission line to Albania

PODGORICA, Nov. 29 – Montenegro launched in test operation a new 400 kilovolt high-voltage electricity transmission line connecting its capital Podgorica to the border with Albania, Montenegrin media said.
The construction of the line cost 12 million euro ($16 million), radio and TV broadcaster RTCG (www.rtcg.me) said on Friday.
It was built by the power utilities of the two countries. The line is part of the international power grid within the frameworks of the South East European Energy Community, RTCG said.
Montenegro and Albania launched in 2007 a project that envisages the construction of a 155 kilometre high-voltage electricity transmission line between the capitals Podgorica and Tirana. The German government, through its state-run bank for reconstruction and development KfW, has provided 49.3 million euro for the project.
