TIRANA, April 27 – The European Parliament (EP) is expected to send a group of observers to monitor the May 8th local elections.
The European Parliament observers will come as an independent group to join other international teams monitoring the process.
Arben Ristani of the Central Election Commission said that up to 1,000 international observers will monitor the May 8 local elections to be added with some 4-5,000 local ones too. Next month’s elections are expected to attract the highest number of observers since the general elections in 1997.
Family voting or voting in group is a key issue that local and international authorities are focusing their work to stop it. That usually happens in rural areas and the CEC has said that individual officials of the polling stations will be held accountable if that is allowed.
