TIRANA, Nov. 26 – Most of the Albanian women are regularly violated from their husband, a according to a research made in a northern Albanian town.
Women Support Women non-governmental organization held a survey in the northern town of Lezha which showed that 47 percent of the questioned had suffered physical violence and seven percent sexual violence from their husbands.
Another form of violence is the economic one as usually women depend on their men on family income.
But despite all these Albanian women prefer not to disclose or denounce such a violence, the research showed.
The research was made known Monday, Nov. 26 celebrated as the world’s day against women’s violence.
The research showed that roughly one-third of the Albanian women suffer any form of violence in the family. All representatives of the civic organizations and also some lawmakers, including parliament Speaker Jozefina Topalli and opposition Socialist parliamentary group leader Valentina Leskaj, appealed to the women to denounce the violence against them. A real equality in the Albanian society would be the main thing to eliminate the violence against women. But that is normally linked with a stable development of the country in general.
